Customer Directory and merging duplicates

There has got to be a better way to merge duplicates! Currently when a first and last name are the same or even if they have the same email, they do not show up as a duplicate! So consequently I have over 5000 customers when in actuality I should have about 3000. I would like to use the email marketing but before I do I have to manually go through the 5000 and merge duplicates so I am not sending the same person several emails. It seems ridiculous for such a high powered application to not have this feature figured out better.

Hey @nishasuphan, I'm very sorry for the additional time this is causing you. If two or more customers share the same email address and/or phone number they should automatically be identified as a duplicate for you to merge.

 

If you think some customers should be duplicates but they're not identified as such please make a note of the customers and then call our CS team so a Customer Directory specialist can investigate.

Yep, I totally get that. But there should be a way to confirm when first and last names are the same...

same here,  @nishasupahan and @Helen.  Multiple (sometimes 3 and 4) of the same customer.  Only way to fix them is to check them, click merge, click OK and SCROLLLLLLLLLL back to where you were alphabetically and do it again.... ugh.  

 

What causes multiple customers, anyway? Different payment methods?

Very sorry for the frustration - it sounds like we have more work to do to help speed up merging duplicates! We are always working to add improvements to the Customer Directory but the meantime there's bit more information about what causes multiple customer profiles in this thread. I hope this helps prevent duplicates!
