How does Square set up and manage a prepaid amount for a customer?

We offer our customers the ability to pay in advance for products and services yet to be purchased.

For example:

1) Customer purchases $2000 worth of products (essentially, setting up a "tab" which future purchases are deducted from)

 

2) Customer purchases gift cards which are used either by the customer or by whoever the customer gives them to.

 

How does Square support the management of these payments and purchases?

Hello @NSHF and welcome to the Seller Community! 

 

There isn't a way to charge a customer in exactly the way you describe in option 1). You can certainly process a transaction for $2000 but after the transaction has been completed there isn't a way to assign items to that transaction, which it sounds like you're looking for? If that's the case you might consider sending an Invoice to your customer, or you can set up recurring payments or subscriptions with Invoices too. 

 

As for option 2) you can load and sell gift cards with Square. Then whoever has the gift card can use it to pay for an item (it's the same flow as checking out with a debit or credit card.)
