Magstripe Reader not working

I just purchased a Square Reader. I've installed the app and set up my account. Now when I try to charge, it doesn't allow me to. When I try to swipe, I either don't get anything to happen or after a few seconds, it brings up "Card Not Charged, Please Try Again. It even continues to tell me a few minutes later the same error if I don't do anything to complete the sale. I have gone through all the troubleshooting, taking off my case, re-installing, etc. Nothing works. Is it because my cards are chip cards? Please assist. 

 

Please do not tell me to do what Sean's suggestions are as I've already tried them.  Please do not tell me to go back through the previous reader's inquiries, as I've already done that.  Neither of those responses is a help to my question.  I have already sent Support a message, so please do not tell me to do that either.  I'd appreciate actual help that is not directly stated here already.

I'm assuming from your post and question about chip cards that this is just a Square magstripe reader device.

 

Since you say you've done all the troubleshooting I'm going to say you probably just got a bad swiper. simple as that,  It happens when they make millions of items that some are bad.  The good news is if you need one now you can go to many local stores https://squareup.com/retail and buy one and get your money for the purchase credited to your account, or you can go to https://squareup.com/dashboard/account/reader-request and request a free reader to be shipped to you.

 

We have a dozen magnetic swipe readers and 4 of the new bluetooth wireleess readers and love them.

Thank you for the honest answer.  I will wait for a reply from Support and then probably proceed with the exchanging process.
