I signed up for square, purchased an iPhone 6s to use it, went to the apple store to download the free point of sale app, completed all required information, yet continued to receive a message saying that I didn't complete all the required information; then finally a message saying there is a problem and to try again later; when I tried several hours later, the same thing happened.

Hmm that sounds strange @Booperdo22. Was the error message from the App Store or in the Point of Sale app? If you were prompted to enter information about your iCloud/App Store account you should contact Apple Support directly.
If you're still having trouble downloading the Point of Sale app go ahead and call our Support Team! Phone support is available Monday-Friday 6am-6pm PT.
