Image filename and URL path

Hey,

Google has a lot of ways to check if your site is relevant to the keywords that users are searching with. One of these ways is to check the URL path of images. For example, when a page would be www.example.com/candle.jpg, the image "candle" would appear in google images and also Google recognises this page "example.com" does something with candles, and therefore the pageranking will increase on the word "candle".

When you upload an image to your Weebly page, Weebly changes the name of the image you're uploading. So when I upload an image with the name "Candle.jpg", Weebly changes this to for eaxmple "2373015_orig.jpg". This is not the most optimal thing for SEO. Allthough it's possible to change the ALT tag of the image (you can make ALT="Candle"), it would be much better if the filename itself would be candle.jpg as well. This would realy fill google images with your images.

About this, i have 2 questions:

1) Is it possible to change this in someway?

2) A work-around would be to upload "candle.jpg" to a different server and include the image via a HTML code block. ( <IMG src="candle.jpg" alt="candle"> ). But does anyone know if this works well for google? At least better then only changing the ALT tag?

For those who wanna know: our page is www.allroundbruiloftdj.nl which means something like Allround Wedding DJ. We're 3rd in google when you look to "Bruiloft DJ" (wedding DJ), but we really want to hit the 2nd or even 1st spot of course ;-).

There isn't a way right now to control the filename of an image uploaded with a standard image element. If you'd like us to add that as an option, though, you could post that on our Vote on Features board:

I vote for being able to keep original image file name. This being important part of SEO, shouldn't be subotaged.

I also think that "gallery elements" should have ALT text added.

Hi Adam,

I have a similar issue, though I need to find the individual URL for individual photos which are uploaded to a page (gallery page for example) so I may use them in some small code.

How do I find these URL's? When I open the gallery webpage of mine, select an image and tap the URL, I see www.mywebsite.com/gallery and nothing more.

This is a critical feature for me as I'm selling 10 items, each with up to 50 different colors! My images are named to the SKU and the only way I can manage this now is to add images one by one with a caption OR write the SKU across the image with another application. Both solutions are tedious, unexpected and unacceptable with an ecommerce offering.
