What happens if a customer returns the item (or a chargeback occurs) before I add my bank account?
What happens if a customer returns the item (or a chargeback occurs) before I add my bank account information? Would Square be liable for these funds?

Any card payment made will be pending in a holding account until you attach your bank account. I would make sure your account is connected ASAP. If you have a return the money will come out of that holding account. Once your bank account is connected you will receive the balance minus the return.
This will be reflected in your Deposit Reports
