Printers no longer connecting on iPad register.

We have a Square Register for walk-in orders but use an additional iPad to take call-in orders on. Our printer in our kitchen is connected through ethernet cables and a modem so that any food orders taken from the iPad will print in the kitchen. Everything was working fine till the last Square update. Since then, our iPad won't connect to the printers. I had our IT guy come look at it, he had to call Square to be walked through solutions and nothing worked. They created a ticket and said they'd look into a solution and get back to me.

About a month later and nothing back. I've replied to the Square specialist that emailed me and still nothing.

Has anyone faced this issue as well?

Anyone from Square reading this that can help me?

Anyone

@JahvaRob I had this happen once when an app update happened, and an employee actually told iOS NO to not let other devices on the network see the square app.

Go to settings  ----> privacy ----> Local Network and make sure the square apps have permission to see the network.

If those aren't turned on it won't work with network printers.  Please let me know if this does or doesn't work.

Hello Donnie,

Business got in the way and I'm just now looking into your suggestion. I did check and everything has permissions switched on.

To make things clear, I can use this iPad to connect to the front bar printer through bluetooth and it works fine. However, the back kitchen printer being too far away won't connect via bluetooth so we need the network.

I've attached a pic of the hardware page. It shows the printers as not configured, but they were working just fine before. And everything my IT guy and Square tried didn't work.

Again, the Square Register works just fine in the kitchen. The iPad not at all.

Hello @JahvaRob,

I am sorry to hear your hardware is acting finicky, I know that can be frustrating, especially in the middle of business.

1. Can you confirm what model iPad you have?

2. Also, are the iPad and printer connected to the same wifi network? I know sometimes businesses will have 2g and 5g and the different devices can be on different ones, but let's make sure they are on the same.

3. Let's also try deleting and reinstalling the printer station and creating a new one. If your iPad and printer are on the same network it will show your printer as an option to connect to the network when creating the printer station. If you are not seeing your wifi network try manually entering in the IP address.

I am really hoping some of these steps resolve this issue but please let me know if not. I appreciate you hanging in there while we figure this out.

@JahvaRob    ;

Hi Rob, I have the same MCP31 Receipt printer or at least that's how it shows on my Square Stand.  I had mine plugged in via USB for Stand 1 and via Network for Stand 2.  Every so often the printer would disconnect from one of the stands.  I finally Uninstalled the printer from Both stands and then I was having issues connecting it to work at all with either stand.  So what I did was use WiFi network for the stands that connects to the Wired network the printer is on.  On a computer i found the Ip address of the Printer and set it as a Static IP address so it will not change on my network.  I wrote down this IP address to put in the Square Stand when locating the Printer.  Since I did this I have not had an issue.

My stands are WiFi to my network and my Printer is wired to the 10/100/1000 ethernet cable to a router on my network.

I just read your initial statement again.

So just so I have this right...

You have your ISP Modem connected to your Printer?

Is your Modem also your wireless router that connects to your Ipads?

Because I have my Modem connected to my own router(s).

If I were to plug via network cable to my Printer from my modem, My printer would not be on the same network as my Ipads.

Is your modem also your router and giving the WiFi network signals?

My network is

Modem to Main Router- Main Router to Repeaters - and my Receipt printer is off of a repeater.

My Main Router gives out the addresses for all my devices on my network not my modem.  My Modem only assigns an IP address to my Main Router.    So even if your Modem has two network ports, 1 going to a printer and 1 going to a WiFi router, they could be on 2 different networks.  My newer modem do this but my older Modem/Routers with 4 network ports were one Network.

What you need to do is get into either your Modem that is acting like a Router or to your Router and find the IP address of you Ipad and your Printers, they both should start with the same numbers like 10.0.0.XXX or 192.168.1.xxx.  The XXX or xxx can be any number from 1 to 999 I believe but usually stops at 255.  As long as the first three sets of numbers are identical they are on the same network.  If you can not see the Ipad or the Printer, the device you do not see is on a different network.

The other thing to check is that the IP address of the printer is not the same as another printer or other device on your network causing a conflict.  Had this with an IP camera and an All-in-One printer on the network.  Camera kept going off line or printer would not print my Online Orders.

Thank you everyone! The suggestion from MAYAP to create new printers worked perfectly. Can't believe my IT guy didn't already try that. Either way, they're connected and working fine.
