HTTPS Encryption / SSL Option for all Packages - SEO Best Practice

Now that Chrome has been updated to basically shame websites that are not secured, it would be good to have the option to purchase and enable HTTPS/SSL for any paid site since this is a best practice for SEO. I saw in another community post that there are no plans at this time to make this option available for anything below the Business package but I hope that is reconsidered if there is enough user support. Weebly is a great platform and keeps getting better, but it would be unfortunate to have to accept that using Weebly means that you will not be able to adhere to certain SEO best practices.

For reference, here is the post from the Google Webmaster Central Blog back in 2014: HTTPS as a ranking signal

I've actually upgraded for 1 month to the business plan for my main website as I couldn't wait any longer because it was bringing my online business down. I have the Pro Plan and have a few websites on Weebly and so far it is still required to upgrade to get SSL. If this doesn't happen within 2 weeks, I will move to another platform. I've been with Weebly since 2010 but this is among the things that Weebly is so behind with and that are absolutely unacceptable in 2017.

Weebly, please enable SSL / HTTPS for all plans immediately.
Your competitors already did that. I'm regretful for choosing weebly.

How long will it take?

Everyone needs https

and NOW it works in the STARTER package .. THANKS weebly :-)

Did you just sign up for a starter package or was it an existing starter?  I still don't see an option under settings to change it.

No, it does not work here eighter. My weebly pages all still require to upgrade to a business plan. But as I wrote in other posts: you can use cloudflare.com to make all your pages SSL for free. We did it with www.leihbox.com, hosted at weebly, free SSL at cloudflare.com.

Edit: We got it for free now, but not automatic. We had to write a request to weebly support. Then after a few hours we got a confirmation message and SSL was enabled. Thanks to weebly and all the users following this topic. Wish you all only the best.

It works definetely: https://www.creaktiv-keramikwerkstatt.de/

I am STARTER at weebly and its completely free

I've written a support-mail yesterday to weebly support .. and .. today they answer to me .. and it was possible to ACTIVATE SSL in the general settings

@joybeamer thanks for the update. Out of curiosity, I ran some checks on your site and here is what I found. When I did a Google search for CreAktiv Keramikwerkstatt, the http URLs still come up in search results (which is expected if you just made the change). It can take days or even weeks for Google to reflect the changes, but you should make sure you use Google Search Console (Webmaster Tools) to add the https version of your site and set it as the default URL. You should also add the new URL for your sitemap: https://www.creaktiv-keramikwerkstatt.de/sitemap.xml. You can then submit a request for Google to recrawl the site. This will help speed up the process.

When I ran your site through Screaming Frog, all the URLs for the pages and images correctly came up as HTTPS. Also, it looks like they correctly created 301 redirects for all the HTTP pages to go to the HTTPS version, which is good. I don't know if it matters, but they did not create 301 redirects for the images.

Sadly, I just checked 12+ sites that I manage that are on the Starter package and none of them have SSL available yet. This is really disappointing since I am the person who originally submitted this feature request. You'd think that might give me some sort of priority if they have the ability to activate the feature on a per-site basis.

@BizTechCoaching.. thank you .. I've already made all changes to the Google Webmasters Tool..

I only can say that I've asked yesterday the support service personally .. maybe "at this moment" they have to change the settings manually and you have to ask for it .. I don't know.

Even my Weebly FREE fun site is now in SSL/https .. Look: https://goldknight2017.weebly.com/

Great to hear you're on top of things @joybeamer. I put in a support request earlier today and look forward to hearing back. I did notice my free "test" site was already updated to https. I would assume that it's much easier for them to roll out SSL to the free sites since they are all just subdomains of the weebly.com domain.
