Itemize A refund with the square connect api

When using the square connect api (either v1 or v2) I can see refunds associated with a transaction, however they seem to be summed up, is there any way that I can determine exactly which items were selected as part of the refund, the same way that you can see it broken out in the IOS app?

Hey @revampit_jking, I'm checking in with our API Specialist for you and will post again here as soon as I have more information!

Hey @revampit_jking, thanks for your patience. Helen is out today but I was able to touch base with our API Team just now. At this time, itemized refunds are not available with Square APIs. We are tracking this request, but we do not have a specific timeline for when this feature would be available.

Hope this helps make things a bit more clear. Please don't hesitate to let us know if anything else comes up or if you have any other questions.

understood.  I cannot seem to get inventory events either is this intended behavior? I can see an endpoint https://squareup.com/api/v2/inventory/events being connected to in the square dashboard but it seems to not have a square equivalent.  I need this in order to do inventory returns in our backend systems

Sorry to keep you waiting, @revampit_jking. I was able to escalate this for further review and the ability to adjust inventory automatically when items are returned isn't possible at this time. Sellers will have to adjust their stock counts manually for these cases.

In addition, you may want to check out Square Connect's Stack Overflow page. It's been a great resource for our developer community, and there's already a ton of questions that have been answered there. Hope this helps make things more clear for now.

Any chance this has been addressed or will be addressed soon? As far as I can tell, there's no way to properly handle COGS accounting unless we manually keep track of returned items. We really need a way to get full transaction details with the API or at least with a report in the dashboard.

Hi @nealibob, thanks for checking in. I was able to run your post by our API folks for another review. They are tracking this feature and we know that many sellers have asked for it, but we still are not able to offer a specific timeline for when itemized refunds may become available.

We definitely want to eliminate any unnecessary manual tasks and we'll circle back with any developments may be helpful.
