HTTPS Encryption / SSL Option for all Packages - SEO Best Practice

Now that Chrome has been updated to basically shame websites that are not secured, it would be good to have the option to purchase and enable HTTPS/SSL for any paid site since this is a best practice for SEO. I saw in another community post that there are no plans at this time to make this option available for anything below the Business package but I hope that is reconsidered if there is enough user support. Weebly is a great platform and keeps getting better, but it would be unfortunate to have to accept that using Weebly means that you will not be able to adhere to certain SEO best practices.

For reference, here is the post from the Google Webmaster Central Blog back in 2014: HTTPS as a ranking signal

  • SSL

It would really help to have integration with Let's Encrypt. They offer free SSL certificates solely for the purpose of encrypting your site. There are several hosting providers now including SSL from Let's Encrypt for all their hosted sites on every price plan.

If this doesn't get resolved soon, moving clients to a new hosting service will be the only solution. No client wants their site to be SSL shamed.

Here I have seen comment after comment for more than a year about SSL and HTTPS, and the only reply from Weebly has been:

At this time, we only offer the SSL or HTTPS:// security on our Business and Performance plans. That said, our primary focus right now is to make SSL's more readily available to our customers, unfortunately we don't have an ETA at this time though. We are very sorry for any frustration, and we appreciate your patience!

This means the Pro, Starter and Free plans are worthless. They are meaningless because no one would visit them.

I can't believe that we are still not able to install 3rd party SSL certificates on Starter plan websites! I chose Weebly to create one of my customers multiple websites but won't be using you for any others that I create including a new one due to start next month and not renewing if this problem isn't fixed.

My customers (and I) are on tight budgets and cannot afford the Pro, Business or Performance plan. They also don't need these plans as they don't require the additional functionality.

Why is it such an issue? You must be losing customers and also not gaining many new ones? Please advise if you now have a date for rolling this functionality out to the poor and lowly customers using the Starter plan?

Hello Weebly team, can you please update us on this matter? We need to know what will happen regarding https and ssl now. Is the only option still to move to the Business plan ?

This is so silly.

Weebly has valid SSL for all our websites (at least the * subdomains)
Try it for yourself - there is no connection error.

They choose to redirect to the http version of the site.

Why? https already works for all the weebly subdomain websites. Even free. Weebly just chooses to not let you use it by forcing the user off https to use http.

Even tumblr lets you use HTTPS. Weebly's mindset is stuck in 2000. While they improved UI, themes and such over the years, security is not taken seriously. I am pretty disgusted that staff don't see the need to serve pages "other than checkout" over https. A common misinformed user. https ensures the user sees the proper content.

There are no transaction pages on Why did weebly choose to serve all of over https and not do http except for login like their mindset is? Their backend and non-critical areas seems to be more important than their purpose (designing and hosting websites).

Having been a user of Weebly since 2012, I really believe Weebly is missing a very large P/R trick here and a golden opportunity to promote it's name as a forward looking website provider,if not only to existing subscribers, but to potential new customers.

If Weebly fail to make the right decision in solving this SSL issue for businesses, especially those that have limited budgets, I fear that these customers will be forced into looking at other options, that they would rather not  do !

Come on weebly, this is your chance to really shine !!!......Smiley Very Happy

If Weebly can't offer SSL then google will redirect customers away from me. If this doesn't change, I'm going to have to leave Weebly. Please fix this!

I've noticed that Wix and Wordpress has a Free SSL for all plans. Can Weebly give free SSL Securities for choosen Sites which are safe. Or an Application form to get a Free SSL to see if your website is safe.

Since ssl is available for the business plan, Weebly can't tell there are technical issues, why ssl is still not available for the other plans. Obviously Weebly is still making more money with the business plan customers (which are only for ssl on that plan), than loosing money due the lack of ssl with the other plans.

Since Weebly is not willing to give an ETA, I'll start testing other white label website builders:

Does anyone know other white label website builder?

Greetings from Switzerland

We are hosting over 60 websites with Weebly, that's allmost 500$ a month. That would be 1'440 $ with the business plan, just to have ssl!

Weebly, what is wrong with you?
