HTTPS Encryption / SSL Option for all Packages - SEO Best Practice

Now that Chrome has been updated to basically shame websites that are not secured, it would be good to have the option to purchase and enable HTTPS/SSL for any paid site since this is a best practice for SEO. I saw in another community post that there are no plans at this time to make this option available for anything below the Business package but I hope that is reconsidered if there is enough user support. Weebly is a great platform and keeps getting better, but it would be unfortunate to have to accept that using Weebly means that you will not be able to adhere to certain SEO best practices.

For reference, here is the post from the Google Webmaster Central Blog back in 2014: HTTPS as a ranking signal

It would be fantastic to have SSL certificates available on Pro websites without having to upgrade to the Business platform. Sensetive information can be shared through contact forms and what with Google looking more favouribly on secure https websites it would be a good option to have on those sites that are not ecommerce.

Weebly is currently rolling out free SSL to all plans - in the Editor go to Settings>General and scroll down to SSL then click on the Enable button on the right side...

When I go here it asks me to upgrade my package to the Business version, before you used to be able to add it as an ad-on for $10.

Status changed to: New Idea

Hi @sara99679

We are still working on rolling out SSL to all of our platforms. Designer accounts are a work-in-progress but definitely on our radar. Thank you so much for your patience. Smiley Happy

I have yet to see that SSL Enable button. Am I going to have to reinstall Weebly to get that? This is so woefully frustrating. Now potential customers are free to assume that I'm some internet criminal.

In the site editor settings page SSL says OFF... when clicking the upgrade button it takes me thorugh to the payment page... scrolling down though the site features "free SSL security" is checked for all options, including the Starter option. So why then is SSL OFF without the option to turn it on?

is there any hope of this being resolved? or is this another request from paying clients falling on deaf ears? this was tabled more than a year ago... is it going to be dealt with or not??? if not I believe we should know about it, so we can take our business someplace where our concerns are heard.

I'd just like to say that Weebly's customer support sorted it out for me.

For my site, the SSL option was Off with an "Upgrade" button. I created a support ticket and Derek M provisoned SSL and enabled the button within 24 hours.

So a polite email should do the trick!

I started a chat session with support and they had me fixed up in a few minutes.  He did something and it fixed it instantly.  I enabled and the update was also instant.

Adam (EMPLOYEE OF WEEBLY), it seems that you were mistaken when you wrote this:

Using my own domain will ssl come as standard Weebly Community (1).png

In the age of FREE SSL Certs from LetsEncrypt (and others like it), why in the world woud you be requiring anyone, (especially customers that have been with you since the days of 10 sites for one Pro account), to pay a monthly premium for an SSL certificate?

I really wanted to believe you that these would be "Free for all of Weebly", but NO!, I am expected to upgrade each site to the Business Plan just to get what people are giving away for FREE! other places!

I am very disappointed (or hopefully wrong)... which is it?

At least being able to add our own free SSL from our domain registrar/host or from letsEncrypt should be an option.

I do not think I am alone on this complaint.

Please tell me they are free and I am wrong, or that your business admits it made a mistake and will be giving them away with ALL PAID PLANS...

THank You for Doing Your Best,

Long long long time suporter,

Aaron
