Thoughts on using Square Payroll?

for those whom have employee payroll... how do you guys like it ???

Having several problems. You CAN'T talk to anyone at Square reguarding payroll (email only).

 

1. If you add a new employee to your employees list, you have to add them again in the payroll section. When you import timecards some employees show as not being on "Square Payoll do you want to add" You can't becuase they already exsist.

 

2. Employee gave her checking account number for direct deposit. Unfortunatly the account number was a digit off. They employees paycheck went into a live account at her bank with that wrong number. Square has refused to ask her bank to reverse the ACH transaction and return the employees pay.

Just to add. We LOVE Square and are using and paying for the services Loyalty, Marketing, Payroll, Gift Cards and Square Capital which work well. We are just having these issues with Payroll. I hope, and believe these things will be fix over time. 

 

I will update this thread when we reach a resolution.

I see there's no update showing the problem solved, but I'm not surprised.  Despite how wonderfully easy it is to use, if Square makes a mistake good luck getting it fixed.  I am still working on getting a mistake resolved with Square payroll reporting incorrect withholding amounts and then filing the wrong tax forms....for the 4th quarter of 2016.  Talking to anyone on the phone is not an option (payroll won't take calls and despite being told multiple times that someone would call me, nobody ever has) and they haven't responded to my emailing them copies of the letters I got from the IRS, not even to acknowledge that they received it (I spent an hour on hold in order to get confirmation that they got it).  Looking at other payroll services now.

Payroll works fine, reemployment tax filings are taken care of by Square which is a time/task-saver.  Easy access to all your filing forms, ets.  I would recommend using Homebase for your scheduling and timecard management.  Homebase will update Square Timecards, you will need to occassionaly need to adust timecards in Square due to their rounding/importing flaws. We have no regrets or plans to switch.  Support could be better, but support needs are few and far between.

 

Cons: Square doesn't remove any employees from your timecard employee list so scrolling through EVERY EMPLOYEE EVER is just lame and should be addressed. Will they ever address it?

Square customer service is garbage. Payroll doesn't hit on time (never hit), called CS and they blamed everyone else (me and the bank) for the problem. Told me "more often than not banks lose direct deposits" what a load of crap.  Our business is swapping payroll providers. 

 

@MizMae is correct. Good luck getting them to admit anything is wrong on their part.

We had a couple of issues early on (2017) but have been using Square Payroll for three years now and haven't had any problems since then. You can now talk to someone in Payroll through customer service. 

 

In fact Square Payroll has been one of the best overall services of all that we use from Square, and we use most of them. We moved from years of Intuit Payroll, and Square Payroll beats them hands down in all ways.

 

We use the auto run feature. Timecards are imported and payroll runs in background flawlessly. Taxes are paid, forms are filed on time, W2 forms are mailed.  

 

Try calling and asking for a Payroll specialist.

We have been using Square Payroll since November 2019. To be honest we have had issues from the start. First off we have the IRS sending us penalties for failure to make a proper tax deposit. I have contacted customer service twice and was told it was an issue with our previous payroll. Seems like they just pass the blame as others have said. We have received penalties for each quarter of taxes filed. How could this be our previous payrolls fault? Last, but not least we have recently discovered about 5 new employees have not had federal taxes withheld on their paychecks. I did not catch the error since 9 of our employees were unaffected. None of the affected employees even noticed until one just recently filed their tax returns. Now I have 1 angry employee and a few others that are confused as to how this is going to affect them. Needless to say I am seriously considering going back to our old payroll provider and dealing with having to do returns manually instead of having to deal with square payroll anymore. 

With all that said it is very convenient having everything automated. Just stay on top of every detail when using square payroll or you will pay for it later. As I have...........

I have been using Square Payroll since Jan. 2019 and have had 0 issues.  When I do need to contact them I can do that easily. 

I'm sorry several of you seem to be having a lot of issues. Has anyone escalated their issue to a supervisor?
