Solved: Can the Square stand and card reader be used with ...

I use Square for all mobile and show transactions. I have a memebership based POS as well, Would the stand reader work as a complete register? So basicly does the card reader work outside of the Square App? I love the stand and would like to use it in our new place.

Out of the box, Square's hardware will only worth in conjunction with our software (Square Register app). We do offer an API (application program interface) for developers to create custom apps using our software/hardware. There are more details here.

Out of curiosity, what is the other software you are using? It might be a good idea to get a hold of them and ask them if this is something on their roadmap.

Sean, to be clear, when using the API, a 3rd party app could be used on the iPad in the SquareStand, with or without the EMV/NFC reader, BUT, when it's time to process a payment, the API brings the Square Register user interface (or a subset of it) to the foreground to handle the processing of the payment?

And when the payment is complete, SquareRegister passes the payment info back to the 3rd party application, and the SquareRegsiter UI goes away so the 3rd party app is once again in the foreground?

Is that accurate? And, if so, is there ANY integration available to Square Hardware ONLY that does NOT also require the use SquareRegister or other Square software, be it API call or otherwise.

Bottom line: Is there anyway to intergrate to use the MSR and EMV/NCF readers with our POS application if they are willing to do the hardware integration. Thanks!

@JsPOS - You have the right understanding. Right now you have to use the Square Register app to process the payment, but we are working on expanding those options in the future.

You could always integrate your square account to addtional systems by using the API to share transaction/customer/etc. information. Hope that helps!
