Is there a way to NOT allow discounts on specific items?

Is there a way to NOT allow discounts on specific items?

I give my staff a discount on products but I do not want to allow a discount on travel size items.  Is there a way to mark them so they can not be discounted?

Re: How do I restrict all discounts on purchases of alcohol?

It sounds like you would like the ability to restrict specific items from discounts, @burrito 🌯
While this is not currently possible, you are able to select the categories and items that discounts apply to.

  1. I would first recommend creating a category from your Dashboard to house all of your alcoholic beverages in.

  2. Next, you'll create or edit a discount via your Discounts page.
While here, toggle ON the Discount rules option in the Automatic discount section:

  3. You'll want to select the Item or category option in the pop-up that appears here:

  4. Next, you can select all categories that you would like the discount to apply to.
Be sure not to select the category you created for your alcoholic beverages!

Please let us know if this isn't quite what you were looking to do, and we can dig in a bit more

Hi @salon208 — welcome to the seller community! ✌🏻

Thanks for surfacing this. Currently, we don't offer the option to restrict discounts on specific items, though I can see how this feature would be helpful for many businesses like yours.

I'll be sharing your suggestion with our Product Liaison team, who is constantly working to improve our products based on seller feedback. We'll certainly circle back with any other developments that may be useful.

Please keep in touch for updates and if you have any other questions, let us know!

I want the discount to apply to just certain items in the online store, not all of my items. From the looks of things it looks like this ability has been asked for many times over for many YEARS. So why do you guys just give the canned answer? Let's get some real talk going here.

Is there a way to prevent a certain discount from applying to an entire category? I want to do a discount to local workers by my restaurant, but I cannot discount liquor by law. I want to prevent this category from getting any discounts.

Thank You.

Hi and welcome to the Seller Community @RNRPizza! I've just merged your post in to this thread, this a request we are tracking interest in.

I definitely see how this is an important feature for your business, especially in order to offer discounts to local workers (great idea!) so thank you for letting us know you're also looking for this.

Hey @Tom. Mark us down as also wanting a feature to block discounting specific items.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback @Sam1133! We are still tracking this request and I will make sure your voice is heard!

This is also a feature I would love to have yesterday. Any word on when it may become a thing?

The online store is not something that is a priority for Square. Just saying don't expect much from feature requests here except friendly moderators saying "thanks for your great idea" or "I understand how this would be useful". It is a GREAT FREE platfrom for simple shops but look elsewhere for more robust update schedules based on real customer feedback or go with a company thats main focus is ecommerce. Good Luck 🙂

Thanks @RNRPizza

To make sure I understand what you want to accomplish: a worker comes in, asks for the discount, you press a discount button, and the discount applies only to the specified items or categories (like food).

We've been conceptualizing doing this automatically for a discount like a happy hour. I'm hearing a need for a manual application option too.

@bgallaher I'd love to hear a bit more about the discount you want to run and how Square could help you do it better if you can share details.

If you (or other sellers here) would  have interest in a beta program, I can add you to my list. With early access, our ask is that if you see bugs or encounter friction of any kind you report it to us. More details to come later before the beta phase begins later this year.

Yes! This would definitely be extremely helpful for us too!
