Undo Button

Status: We're Working on It.
by mandismuses on ‎02-26-2016 10:29 PM

I love that Weebly saves automatically, because it helps if the computer shuts down, we lose power, I'm being blonde and click the wrong thing, etc. However, sometimes you do something and then want to smack yourself because you screwed something up. It'd be so awesome to have "save points" or an "Undo" button, to where you can make or undo changes until you hit that big 'ol publish button, then it flushes the save points. This way, even if something does happen, computer shuts down, whatever, if you haven't clicked "publish", you know the site saved a few save points up till that point, so you wouldn't worry so much if you clicked the wrong thing right before the apocalypse happened and you broke something Smiley Happy

Access to image directory / File Manager

Status: We're Considering It.
by cloonans on ‎02-26-2016 09:08 AM - last edited on ‎05-15-2016 10:18 AM by Community Manager

In other CMS platforms, the user has the ability to scroll through their image directory, so if you need an image again or on another page in the site, you can just reference it just like we already have the ability to do with files.  Currently, as far as I can tell, the only way to reference a previously used image is to find it on the site and use the URL or to upload it again.  Especially with photos, it would be nice not to have to keep the original files on a hard drive once they've been uploaded to the site.  I've had a few times where i had to search through blog histories to find a file I needed a year later.  If the image directory was easily available, I could have just selected the file from a list.

Customizing Checkout Experience To Our Own Preferences!

Status: We're Considering It.
by tradey on ‎05-18-2016 09:09 AM - last edited on ‎05-18-2016 10:11 AM by Employee Moderator

It would be great if we can customize our checkout fields to the way we want just like the contact forms and survey form elements. For instance, there are some fields that come by default such as Region and Zip which are pretty lame and unwanted for me, and so I would like to remove them from letting the user enter such information as they won't benefit me at all. Nevertheless, we should have the ability to also insert as many fields as we like in case there are some mandatory fields not placed in the default checkout. Furthermore, it would also be nice if we can have a tick box below the fields that states the user to save his/her credentials locally on their PC the next time they come to checkout so that they won't need to retype everything again. It would surely bring better sales for my business for minimizing and reducing the hassles. Last but not least, it would be super great if we can specify different rates for different shipping method services, ex: the user selects/picks from a drop-down "Express Shipping / Standard Shipping / Royal Shipping / Same-Day Shipping / International Shipping, and so on..." We can define these names to our own liking as well as set different charge fees for each. Well, nough said. If I had missed anything, then don't hesitate to comment below. All feedback is much appreciated. Smiley Wink

Hi, @localtrends and commenters! I wanted to let you know that we have continued to push the Weebly team to make the checkout process more customizable. The team is considering it at the moment, and I will let you know when I hear otherwise.

Thanks, and enjoy your day!

Accounts for Customers

Status: It's in Our Queue.
by millimil on ‎03-12-2016 11:06 AM

Hello,

I operate an online shop and have been quite pleased with the ease of use and ability to edit quickly when I'm busy.

Well, my customers have asked many times if they can look at past orders, see the tracking info, set up subcription payment plan etc. This would be a wonderful feature for those of us with online shops or business.

by Job ‎03-25-2016 01:25 PM - edited ‎06-17-2016 01:44 PM

The header is one of the first things people see when they visit your site.

I think there is not very much choose between Header-Types sooo i have a few idea's i think that are awesome!

1. A full width slider Header-Type

2. An Header-Type where you can drag and drop the elements you want.

3. A video Header-Type where you can play a video.

4. Modern parallax image in Header

(5. Be able to customize height of the background header/banner image.)

(6. You should be able to edit your mobile header separately.)

Do you have more suggentions? Leave a reaction below.

(Sorry for my English Smiley Wink)

Status: Hurray! We're Done!

This is a terrific post - thank you so much for all of your great ideas!

We're so excited to let you know that we've just made MAJOR updates to headers, which now allow you to do all the below:

- Add, delete and edit any elements you want in your header

- Click and drag to resize your header's height

- Add video backgrounds to your header (if you're on a pro plan or above)

- Add color backgrounds to your header

- Add parallax scrolling effects to your header background (on images only)

We haven't yet implemented a slideshow header, but are working on it!

Hope you enjoy our new features!

It would be very helpful to have a pre-publish feature to check links, forms, email, etc before going live.

Changing the Filename of uploaded images (For better SEO)

Status: Hurray! We're Done!
by kvdweijden on ‎05-25-2016 10:46 AM - last edited on ‎06-02-2016 03:27 PM by Employee Moderator

Hey,

Google has a lot of ways to check if your site is relevant to the keywords that users are searching with. One of these ways is to check the URL path of images. For example, when a page would be www.example.com/candle.jpg, the image "candle" would appear in google images and also Google recognises this page "example.com" does something with candles, and therefore the pageranking will increase on the word "candle".

When you upload an image to your Weebly page, Weebly changes the name of the image you're uploading. So when I upload an image with the name "Candle.jpg", Weebly changes this to for eaxmple "2373015_orig.jpg". This is not the most optimal thing for SEO. Allthough it's possible to change the ALT tag of the image (you can make ALT="Candle"), it would be much better if the filename itself would be candle.jpg as well. This would realy fill google images with your images.

So for the best ranking in search engines it is absolutely necessary to be able to control the name of the images. I sugest Weebly is making it possible to control the filename for a better SEO!

MEGA MENU NAVIGATION

Status: New Idea
by DanielJCartier on ‎07-03-2016 02:07 PM - last edited on ‎07-07-2016 05:23 PM by Employee Moderator

Make themes with Mega-Menu Navigation!

I've talked to Weebly staff about this on numerous occasions and they tell me it's a feature people have requested. What "Mega Menu" means is that when you click on a menu header - a box opens up containing the entire menu navigation for that header. As websites become larger, it's a feature more clients are requesting. It makes large websites much easier to navigate. I've attatched some photo examples pulled from the web to demonstrate what I mean. :-)

Mega Menu #0

Mega Menu #1

Mega Menu #2

I would love to be able to have my customers post reviews for each of my products. But, only if they have purchased the product  It would have a star option and a place to enter a comment. Then a tag beside it that says, "Verified Purchase". Sorta like Amazon is doing. Then the star rating could then be shared along with the product to social media if the product is shared. This would make me so happy!

Ability to Change Button Color

I am using the Lucent theme and it appears you can change the color of absolutely everything, except the Buttons. So now my site is blue and green, but my buttons remain gold.

have more than 30 days of stats for visitors so you know if your site is tanking or expanding its user base. This is basic stuff people please upvote.

Subscription Feature

by Carl on ‎04-05-2016 10:32 AM - last edited on ‎04-19-2016 02:56 PM by Community Manager

I'd like the ability to offer paid monthly subscriptions to customers. I feel that offering something like a pre-purchase for example a year, ends up being such a high value that people are deterred from the store.

Ability to Publish Single Pages

I'd like to publish single pages. Right now when you click publish, all changes get published.

Bulk Editing: Move/Copy/Delete multiple elements at one time!

Status: Alternative Suggestion Provided
by dp1 on ‎05-18-2016 08:01 AM - last edited on ‎05-18-2016 10:03 AM by Employee Moderator

I have been waiting and waiting for this. When, oh when, will Weebly make this possible?? It is SO fundamental. Having  to edit each element one at a time is extremely time-consuming. I have made at least 5 requests for it--2 by this feature request, and a few by phone. I notice that several other folks would like it, too, as there was at least one other post for it.

Seems to me it would work for several types of sites. Ours, for example, is a non-profit pet rescue organization, and we are constantly posting animals for adoption. As more pets are posted, some get deleted because they are adopted, and some need to be moved to a different spot on the page. I cringe every time this happens, which is very often. I am to the point where I am looking elsewhere for a company that has that feature. PLEASE make this happen soon! Thank you.

Vertical dividers

Status: Alternative Suggestion Provided
by Perre on ‎04-22-2016 03:25 AM - last edited on ‎04-27-2016 10:02 AM by Employee Moderator

Hi, Why do we have horizontal dividers but no vertical dividers?

I would like to spilt pages in two with a vertical divider. But no such option that I can see.

Surely Weebly can fix that quickly?

HTTPS Encryption / SSL Option for all Packages - SEO Best Practice

Status: We're Working on It.
by BizTechCoaching ‎09-29-2016 01:52 PM - edited ‎11-09-2016 08:39 PM

Now that Chrome has been updated to basically shame websites that are not secured, it would be good to have the option to purchase and enable HTTPS/SSL for any paid site since this is a best practice for SEO. I saw in another community post that there are no plans at this time to make this option available for anything below the Business package but I hope that is reconsidered if there is enough user support. Weebly is a great platform and keeps getting better, but it would be unfortunate to have to accept that using Weebly means that you will not be able to adhere to certain SEO best practices.

For reference, here is the post from the Google Webmaster Central Blog back in 2014: HTTPS as a ranking signal

Complete Overhaul to Blog Tools

Status: We're Considering It.
by newyorkave on ‎01-27-2017 11:20 AM - last edited on ‎01-30-2017 11:58 AM by Community Manager

I propose on behalf of my creative agency, and the 40+ websites we manage on Weebly, a complete overhaul of Weebly's blogging system and tools. It's dated, cumbersome, and a challenge to use aggressively to improve SEO.

Here is what we propose:

Management Similar to Members/E-Com

I recommend taking influence from the member management and e-commerce management systems with regard to blog management. For example, opening a menu to view/edit/sort your blog posts/categories/etc, would be a HUGE step forward. For us particularly, we manage very active blogs for our clients and when we need to make changes to older posts or changes to more than one post at a time, it's painful.

Authorship

This should be a no-brainer but along with multiple users accessing Weebly websites, you should be able to associate an author for every post on the blog.

Layouts and Design

One of the things that make Weebly so great is the ease of use of the CMS and ability to swap themes and layouts fairly quickly. Unfortunately, the blog is limited to one layout and an option to turn on/off the sidebar. This alone is a disappointment and should be corrected by giving users the ability to choose from different layouts for BOTH their posts and the parent page (list of posts). I know I've seen many people request that the ability to show posts on the parent page in a more visual format versus a simple list...we agree. Lastly, the layout for the post and the layout for the parent should be able to be different from one another.

Category Display Per Post

There's no reason why categories are not displayed by default for each post. Most people like to sort through their reading by categories and can dig deeper into a website's blog content by reading more of one thing. As of today, Weebly users are limited by having one long list of categories and while within a single post, you have no idea what categories have been assigned.

Categories and Archives Display

Currently limited to the sidebar, the long list of archives and categories is creating a mess for many of our websites. We have since custom built our own solution for organization and display but my goodness, what happens when you have 4+ years of content?!?! For us, that's over 44 list items in the archives. We've also seen people beg for an option in this regard and it would seem to make the most sense for an overhaul.

Styled RSS Feeds

Hey Weebly...have you heard that content is king? Yes, you have and so has the rest of the world. To funnel people into more blog content, styled RSS feeds would be huge. The widget should also give the ability to filter the feed by category instead of just most recent and if possible, pull in the image from the post when applicable. Like the categories and archives display, we've custom built our own solution and it's a big hit with our customers. Making it easier for us to serve them will only improve our experience, and the experience of your millions of other users, with the platform.

Ability to Export

I shouldn't have to mention how important the content someone creates for an active blog is to their business and lives. Currently, Weebly's blog content is served up dynamically which prevents blogs from being copied over within your current website or to another website. In addition, there's no way to export the content from your blog. In fact, if you somehow accidently delete the blog page (which is suprisingly easy to do in Weebly), you lose it all. For us particularly, that would mean years and years and years of hard work and thousands and thousands of dollars. Hello?!?!

Ability to Import

This is another no-brainer. Users should be able to export their current blog content from SquareSpace or Wordpress and IMPORT it into Weebly. Need we say more here?

Better Social Media Buttons

They're ugly, outdated, and bulky. Also, why isn't there a LinkedIn option? These need revisiting BADLY. Also, why can't we turn them off if we don't want them? Right now, we're hiding them in the code and it's a pain.

Pagination, PLEASE

While Weebly users do have the ability to choose how many posts are displayed per page, the pagination itself is horrible. First, there's only next and previous. Where are the page numbers? Where's the jump to a page? More importantly, the styling here is dusty and needs to be refreshed.

Post Options

The post options are buried within two menus, to get to your set SEO title/display, you literally have to be two-three menus deep. This is unacceptable and causes many of our clients to forget the step. Options per post should be more easily accessible through a better-designed menu.

Unpublish Option

Users should have the ability to pull a post back into drafts. This is just common courtesy. Come on!

Bug Fixes

  • Blog categories with hyphens automatically create two different categories. For example, if you want a category called "E-Commerce", it will create two different categories: "E Commerce" and "E-Commerce". Since there isn't an effective way to remove categories, it's impossible to fix. Also, it creates major confusion for people browsing your blog content by category.
  • By default, all text content is full justified. Why? That makes no sense and doesn't happen anywhere else.

I know we're not the only ones with these recommendations and if you read news relevant to Weebly blog (lack of) features, you can see that even review websites are beginning to point out how poor Weebly is for building a blog. While they used to lead the charge here, they've fallen way behind.

Our hope is that an update is already on the way, but we are beginning to get desparate. It's a challenge managing this many sites that we also create massive amounts of blog content for. Also, since we encourage our clients to blog, blog, blog...can you imagine what type of complaints we've received? See above.

Thanks for giving this a thorough review and consideration.

We really appreciate the support for this idea! The Weebly team is considering now, and hopefully we will hear an update soon.
