iPad Sleep/Lock While Scanning Items

We have:

iPad w/ Square Stand

Honeywell 1250g Scanner

Square for Retail app

Situation:

We had the iPad's sleep or auto lock feature set to 2 minutes. Apparently near the 2 minute mark, the iPad went to sleep and locked in between a couple of scans, between which were mere seconds.

Question:

Is there a way to set the activity of the scanner or other peripherals to refresh the auto lock timer on the device?

We have since bumped the timeout to 15 minutes, but would prefer the iPad to have a faster lock without having to worry about it locking while ringing up items or in the middle of a transaction.

I don't believe that's something that you can do from the Square side of things, but it might be worth reaching out to Apple to see if there's any workarounds or solutions that they have.

The solution I would suggest would be the one you've already implemented, which is increasing the time between screen locks. Many sellers turn the auto lock off completely on their iPads since they're constantly being charged by the Square Stand.
