Had the same problem and found it helps to go beyond the last word to include any blank spaces beyond it.  Or, may have to 'capture' the last space in the line above and start there.  (This also works for bold and italics  -- when those don't change, either.) 

Hope this helps and you'll find you can change text color this way, too.
