Before I became a freelancer, my yearly tax returns would take just a couple hours to complete. After I started contracting, and after deciding not to use a CPA, that time frame went from hours to weeks. I got by on pure moxie (and not having a very complicated set of deductions), but it wasn’t a pleasant experience. My point here dear reader is this: you should think these business things through.

Reading this article on the Inspiration Center, How to Start a Home-Based Business, made me think of all of this. It's important to plan your business choices out and make sure you’re taking the right action. Reading through these six steps is a good start.

One item on that list is having a dedicated space, not just for your ability to focus, but also because it’s going to make completing those tax returns a whole lot easier. (Also, maybe you should hire a tax professional right away -__- )
