Many times customers have beeb baffled how their phone numbers have gotten onto the receipt screen,(or how another number!). I am assuming they have put it in before at another kiosk. Please advise how to change it or how to explain why especially if it is a number they don't recognize.

Thank you for posting in the Seller Community. Welcome.
You are definitely correct in stating that the number linked to text message receipts is entered in by a customer at the point of sale. If they want to change it, there is a an option to disassociate the contact information from our system by clicking on "not my receipt." Afterwards, the next time they visit a Square seller, they can type in their phone number or email as new.
