Comp vs Discount

We have a membership program. Part of their membership includes $15 toward retail each month. Would it be best to create a $15 membership discount to apply to the transaction or is there a way to create a Comp for a specific amount, and not comp the entire item?

I guess my problem with classifying it as a discount is that they have paid for a portion of it at the beginning of the month with their monthly membership fee...

There’s not a way to do a partial comp for an item, though that would be really handy to have. At this time the only way to do this is to create a $15 discount.

Are you concerned about your customers viewing it as a discount instead of a credit? If so, then you can the discount a name that doesn’t include the word discount. For example, you could name it Membership Credit. On the customer’s receipt they will not see it as a discount, instead, it will appear as “Membership Credit   -$15.” In your reports you’ll see that it’s counted as a discount, but the customer won’t be any wiser: they’ll just see that $15 was deducted from the subtotal due to their membership credit.
