But if you're having trouble swiping cards my first suggestion would be to make sure your device is compatible with Square.

 

If your device is compatible then take off your phone (or tablet case) if you have one. The case can prevent the reader from connecting fully with your device.

 

I also recommend making sure that you've updated the Point of Sale app on your mobile device.

 

If you still can't accept cards with the reader the issue might be with the reader itself. The magstripe reader has a 6-month warranty or you can buy a reader from a retail location near you.
