Square Marketing: How do I edit an active marketing campaign?

I recently created a new ongoing campaign to welcome new customers after they've visited.  I'd like to go in and customize the email more.... it doesn't even have recipeints yet!  HOW do I do this?  Seems like a pretty simple thing to do yet I see no "edit" button or way to access the editing screen.  Please tell me I don't have to delete this campaign and start over with a new one.  That seems counter-productive!

Re: How do I edit an active marketing campaign?

Hello @fsbodyworks, that's a great question.

Currently we don't have the ability to edit marketing campaigns once they're active. I can see how being able to edit automated campaigns like welcoming new customers would be a smoother process. I'll make sure to pass that feedback along to the Marketing Team.

I don't have a timeline for when this might be avalible. but if I hear anything I will make sure to let you know.

I've also gone ahead and moved your post to the features section of the community so our product managers can view this thread.

If you still have questions please let me know!

Hey @smooteacafe,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear about the confusion with this campaign. At this time, there isn’t a way to edit an active campaign once it has been sent.

If this was an automated campaign or a blast campaign with a coupon, you can cancel it and then resend it.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Visit Marketing in your online Square Dashboard
  2. Select the Active campaign you’d like to cancel > click View > Cancel.
  3. Select whether you’d like to still honor unredeemed coupons or cancel and invalidate them.
  4. Click Cancel Campaign.

Hopefully everything got sorted out, but if you have any questions—please get in touch with our Customer Success team. They'll be able to take a deeper dive into your settings.

I saw in one of the responses where this feature was not available as of last year. Have there been any updates to Square's services that currently allow for editing of active campaigns? It would be beneficial to be able to change end dates when an active campaign has clearly gone stale and it's time for a new, fresh one to be sent out to customers.

Thanks for checking in @CarwashJC. I'm sorry but I don't have an update on this feature request for you at this time!

In the meantime, to manage your existing campaigns you can cancel a campaign if you  need to.

Also keep in mind when you create a campaign you can set an expiration date for a coupon. If you don't set a custom expiration a date a coupon will automatically expire 2 months after the campaign has been sent. I hope this helps!

Today is 10/4 and I just signed up for the campaign for 30 days.  I created a campaign yet it went out with a September to all my customers.  September is on a part that I did not write. Can you fix it and resent out?

Hi is there a way to view what was sent out in a active campaign? The actual work itself....

Hey @lhkg, thanks for checking in! Yes—you can view the content and status of a campaign from the online Square Dashboard. Head over to Campaigns > select appropriate campaign > click the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen > View.

Hope this helps surface the information you need! Please let me know if any other questions remain. 🙂

It's been nearly two years since this was origianlly reported.  Has it seriously still not been fixed?

@KidsWonder

To edit these campaigns you do need to just Cancel the active campaign. Make a copy of the original, and then edit it before you click to activate again.

These are the steps to making changes on the automated campaigns because you have to cancel the auto-send before making any edits.  Let me know if you need further insight.

I can only see where you can duplicate a completed email. I don't see where you can copy an active automated email before I cancel. Am I missing it? I just need to correct the link to my website and it sounds like I can only cancel and completely rebuild. Not happy!  This should be an easy fix. Square....from what I can tell customers have been asking for this for two years. It's time!

I don't even see how to duplicate a cancelled email campaign! Can't believe there's no ability to edit! This is a basic function that we need. Help!

Hey @sugarspastl Thanks for reaching out and I'm really sorry to hear the frustration regarding your marketing campaigns.

You can duplicate a previous campaign, whether cancelled or not. To do so:

  1. Visit the Marketing section of your online Square Dashboard.
  2. Select the campaign you’d like to duplicate.
  3. Click, Actions > Duplicate in the upper-right corner. (Its at the top when you view the campaign report)
  4. Complete, review, and send or schedule your newly duplicated campaign.

This should help, but let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you!

@Helen I don't see a way to actually cancel the campaign without ALSO canceling the active coupons (which I don't want to do).  When I select cancel and it warns me that the coupons will be canceled, I have to select "Don't cancel", but then nothing happens and the campaign is still there.  Can you offer any further guidance?

Hey @RoasterChica. Jumping in here for @Helen!

I checked in with our Loyalty specialists to get some clarification. Unfortunately if an automated campaign is cancelled, any coupons associated with that campaign will also be cancelled.

Sorry this isn't the answer you were looking for. I can share this with our product team, though, and let them know that you want to keep the coupon active after cancelling the campaign.

Thanks for your reply @nika  but this is unacceptable, and mostly because this is not a NEW issue.  I see that it's been ongoing for a couple years.  People are paying for Square Marketing and with this kind of glitch, the product should still be in Beta!!

For Square Management, @Helen and whomever is on the inside, this needs to be fixed.  Users should have the power to alter a campaign at any time without needing to cancel active coupons and disappoint customers.

For other frustrated Square retailers, this is what I have learned:  Make your campaign as generic and evergreen as possible, that way you won't have to worry about needing to update it.

Unfortunately, I didn't know this when I started automated campaigns recently and I highlighted seasonal drinks.  So I was forced to go in and delete the entire thing and deal with any potential disappointment at the point of sale.

I did all of these steps, and i'm still unable to delete an email campaign. it still lists it as active. I had to make another one with the proper links attached. How do i delete the other one since these steps are not working?

@Mjribic There's not a way to fully delete a marketing campaign, but you can cancel it! Sorry there's not a way to delete it and get it off of your home page.

I've tried. It doesn't give me the option to cancel either. Just to review it and that's it. No buttons that say cancel.

Hey @Mjribic-

Stepping in for @nika here.

Just to be clear, you are not seeing the option below on your end?

Would you mind replying with a screenshot of the options you are seeing when you click on the active marketing campaign?

I look forward to hearing from you! 🌟

Not clear how CANCELLING a campaign is the same as editing. Please provide CLEAR instructions on how to edit an active marketing campaign.
