Can you key in phone payments with chipped cards

Keying in a phone payment and the card comes back declined, card is good with a high limit. We are thinking the problem may be it is a new chipped card. What do you suggest?

Keying in a chipped card is not inherently an issue.  It could be that the bank that holds that credit card account declined the purchase because of the possibilty that a keyed in transaction could be fraud.  The customer should call their credit card company to verify.  They might be able to override the problem so as to allow you to take the card in this instance.

@VanKalkerFarms is correct, you absolutely want to have your customer reach out to their bank to make sure everything is good with their card. Another thing to check is that all of the information that is being entered is what the card issuing bank has on file including the card number, expiration date, cvv and billing zip code.
